Wow - what a crazy 2 days of travel. Got on the plane in Charlotte at 5:00pm. arrived in Kiev about 24 hours later local time with maybe just a few hours of cat naps on the plane and in the Munich airport. So I think we've been up for 30 hours straight and a little worn out. While waiting in line to get thru customs in Kiev, we met another couple from Columbia SC who were also there to adopt a boy. We were able to help each other out to get thru customs and also hear their story...
We met Natasha just outside customs who is our translator/driver/facilitator while we stay in Kiev... she took us to the grocery store, helped us get some money exchanged and got us into our apartment where we'll be staying for the next couple nights. We are staying in this furnished apartment in the historical part of downtown and we feel very safe here. We walked down to a restaurant just down the cobblestone street and had a very tasty local dish and some very good local beer. Made it back to the apartment, trying to catch up on a little sleep but the time difference is going to be challenging. It's 4:30 am here but 9:30pm back home. I just woke up but also feel I should be going to bed soon... very confusing.
Later today we have our appointment with the State Department of Adoption (SDA) which should set the tone for how everything else will go here. Also plan to do a little sight seeing once the appointment is finished. Weather was nice here yesterday, sunny and around 85 and should be that way the rest of the week.
Thanks to everyone for the prayers, we really do feel blessed and protected... please keep praying.
Dave
